Firefighters and police responded to the scene at Norwood Avenue at 9:43 a.m., a spokesperson for the City of Summit said in a release.
Upon arrival, crews discovered that a resident’s vehicle had crashed through an internal wall in the garage, causing mild structural damage, authorities said. The gas and water lines in the unit were also damaged as a result of the crash, authorities said.
No injuries were reported, but one of the two individuals in the car was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, authorities said.
The other five units in the building were evacuated until the gas line was shut off, authorities said. All residents from these additional units were able to return to the building after the units were evaluated and deemed safe, authorities said. The unit where the crash occurred remains unsafe for reentry at this time due to the reported structural damage, authorities said.
